Bio: Jennifer Kolb, LCSW; Social Work Consultant, reviewed and determined the course meets requirements for continuing education in the field of social work. Jennifer graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville, Kentucky. She specializes in school-based psychotherapy with children and adolescents, as well as licensing exam coaching and preparation.

Course Description:
Safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments are essential to prevent child maltreatment and to assure children reach their full potential. This course proposes evidence-based strategies communities can consider in promoting relationships and environments that help children grow up to be healthy and productive citizens so that they, in turn, can build stronger and safer families and communities for their children.

This course is intended for communities committed to the positive development of children and families, and specifically to the prevention of child abuse and neglect. While child maltreatment is a significant public health problem, it is also a preventable one. The steps suggested in this course — along with your commitment to preventing child maltreatment—can help create neighborhoods, communities, and a world in which every child can thrive.

Learning Objectives:

1. Evaluate strategies that communities can implement to promote the types of relationships and environments that help children to grow up to be healthy and productive
2. Delineate critical goals and potential steps for promoting safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments and preventing child maltreatment
