With well over 40 years of experience using hypnosis and hypnotherapy, Stuart Hellebrand, M.S., C.Ht, maintains a hypnotherapy practice in Westlake Village CA.  Medical and mental health professionals refer, on average 45% his clients.  Stuart is also a Senior Clinical Instructor at White Memorial Medical Center’s Craniofacial Pain Clinic, in Los Angeles, CA, where he teaches self-hypnosis and works with medical referral’s who suffer from chronic pain.  Stuart has years of experience teaching classes about hypnosis, self-hypnosis, and hypnotherapy at colleges and universities throughout California.  His extensive background also includes having worked in treatment programs for 32 years for the Los Angeles County Probation Department.

Workshop Description

The purpose of this workshop is to provide you with the training necessary to be able to hypnotize clients with ease.  You will learn the fundamentals of one-on-one hypnosis.  You will also participate in self-hypnosis and group hypnosis exercises.

The workshop will explore hypnosis in terms of its history, its presence in the media, the myths that surround its application, its efficacy in therapy and medicine, and the Theory of Mind, which is a model, easily explained to your clients.  Following a PowerPoint presentation, covering the preceding, the workshop is filled with an array of demonstrations and exercises enlisting your observation and participation.

Hypnosis is not magical, nor is it mystical.  However, this is how the public has been conditioned to view hypnosis.  The fact is that environmental hypnosis is an everyday experience that either works for or against all of us.  Hypnosis is simply the application of a skills set that provides access to a client’s subconscious mind.

Logic, reasoning, willpower, and decision-making, are functions of the conscious mind.  Flawed logic, reasoning, willpower, or decision-making can significantly impede the psychotherapeutic process.  The same is not true when hypnotherapy is used as an adjunct to psychotherapy.  This is because hypnotherapy provides you with access to your client’s subconscious mind, where logic, reasoning, willpower, and decision making, be they flawed or not, do not exist.

Think of using hypnosis and hypnotherapy as giving you the ability to download psychotherapeutic software patches to your client’s operating system.  Additionally, in that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, the process empowers clients’ to accomplish change in a way that bolsters confidence and builds ongoing momentum for future change.

Workshop Objectives

• • You will gain an understanding about the common misconceptions held by the public about hypnosis.
• • You will understand and be able to define hypnosis and hypnotherapy in terms easily understood by your clients.
• • You will gain an understanding of the Theory of Mind
• • You will gain an understanding about the concept of Suggestibility.
• • You will observe or participate in exercises that demonstrate the initial hypnotherapy session, finger spreading, arm raising, maternal and paternal hypnotic inductions, reactional hypnosis, shock induction, and group hypnosis.
• • You will participate in an exercise involving self-hypnosis and thereafter you will demonstrate your functional understanding of this process by taking yourself into and out of self-hypnosis
• • You will learn how to expand your psychotherapy practice through the inclusion of hypnotherapy. In short, offering hypnotherapy services can help you to develop a referral network of medical, dental, psychotherapist, and chiropractic professionals.
